The ASMR Psychologist 

Hello everyone. My name is Dr Emma Gray and I’m  ‘The <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxVy6w2y7XIn3HzG4feDLWw">ASMR Psychologist</a>’ on Youtube. I post daily videos to share with as many people as possible the amazing benefits that can be achieved when we combine ASMR with psychology. I
spend around 25 hours a week creating. 

For the first 18 months on You Tube I was creating psychology
self-help videos. It was tough going and I didn’t get much interest or support.
Then someone mentioned that my videos really reminded them of the ASMR videos that
they loved to watch and suggested that I start making them. Then someone else
suggested the same. Then someone else. 

I hadn’t heard of ASMR but when I looked into it I realised
that I had been experiencing it all my life without knowing that it was a 'thing' with a name that others were also experiencing too. As my research continued I started to see all the connections that ASMR has with
psychology and it’s potential to boost our mental health and wellbeing and heal
our distress and discomfort. I also saw how psychology could help us to
understand ASMR and so extend and expand it's application and reach. 

I have loved these first few months of my ASMR career, the
community is the warmest, most open hearted, thoughtful and enthusiastic I have
come across. This makes sense because research shows that open
minded, curious and reflective individuals are the ones most likely to
experience ASMR. 

But I can lie, it has been tough trying to create decent content, 4 young children, a full time job and living in a dilapitated old house next to a busy road is not a recipe for lovely long, relaxing ASMR videos. However, I have a plan and with just a little support I think I will be able to improve my content, the quality of my videos and maybe even carry out some research to extend our knowledge of ASMR and how we can best use it to improve our health and well-being.

Why Patreon? 
Creating videos takes a lot of time and YouTube does not allow me to monetize
many of my videos as they deem some mental health and ASMR videos as being
unsuitable for advertisers. In addition to this many people use Adblocking
software when watching YouTube videos and, as a UK YouTube creator, I receive
on average less than half of the revenue of an American YouTube creator. I want
to make ASMR videos for you without having to worry about whether YouTube will
support them and Patreon is a way for people to support my channel.
