Airtrack training how to get started

Peter Springer

For several years I have been gymnastics, the last 2 years mainly on the Airtrack. Airtracks are great for sports that involves jumping - sports like gymnastics, parkour, martial arts or cheerleading to mention a few. Today I am going to tell you a little bit about how you can get started with Airtrack training. For more information you are welcome to follow me on my blog here at https://tinyurl.com/airtracks

One of the popular Flipz Airtracks from GymPlay

The first thing you will need is of course an Airtrack, and here it's important to select the proper model. If you choose one that is to small, you will get tired of it pretty quickly. Choose one that is to large, you will mostly find it hard to setup or carry around, not to mention it will be pretty expensive. So what is the perfect size of this gymnastic mat for you? It's hard to say as it depends on your age, size and skill level. But if I had a give a few tips it would be - for young beginners - go with a 3 meter 10cm model. Older beginners a 4 or 5 meter in length and 10cm in height. For more experienced gymnast get one around 5 meter if you got the space for it, and 15 cm in height. The best thing however would be to talk to an expert at your gym or a dedicated Airtrack online shop who can guide you properly according to your gymnastic level and size.

Ok how do you then get started with an Airtrack? The best thing would be to take some gymnastic classes, but if that isn't possible try go on you tube and write beginner Airtrack jumps and find a few tutorials there. Here it's important that you don't try something above your current skill level or something that you don't think is 100% safe for you to try. A good idea is to have an adult to supervise your training for the first few times and maybe help you a little bit with the jumps. Some Airtrack sellers like GymPlay got something called GymPlay School where you can find some of the basic moves and learn how to make them.

Once you have gotten more skilled and can do most of the basic jumps you may want a bit more Airtrack to play on. Instead of buying a new expensive model, you can often just buy some gymnastic accessories such springboard, airbarrels and landingmats to make a larger and more fun track. Or even better if you have a friend or two who also one some Airtracks - you can sometimes combine them with a velcro connector and make a huge track you all can have a lot of fun on. For many this is by far the most interesting part of Airtrack training and a great way to be more social with your friends.

Many really enjoy using these Airtracks. Both for gymnastics and for tumbling or play. The GymPlay Airtrack is one of my own favorites as you can combine it with other Air tracks or a lot of gymnastic accessories like Airbarrels, Training bars, training beams and much more. You can even combine 2 GymPlay Airtracks with a velcro connector and turn them into one long Air track. This is actually a pretty neat feature as it's often hard to find the space for a 6 meter Airtrack indoor. But you can most of the time squeeze a 3 meter model in. It's also a lot easier to carry 2 3 meters instead of one 6 meter which can be pretty heavy. My kids use this feature quite a lot. They both got a 3 meter model, which they can easily use in their own rooms, and then combine them out in the garden when the weather is nice and enjoy a long 6 meter Airtrack.
