I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted Zooloos Book Tours.
Awakening is the first book in a new trilogy (The Inner Compas) and was beautifully written. We follow Marissa who is instantly likeable and very relatable. The book is a spiritual journey but not shoved down your throat. I enjoyed reading about Marissas journey and her discoveries along the way. Her journey isn't all plain sailing and she has some lows along with highs. Her character was very realistic and the author did a great job of simplifying concepts that could have been difficult to understand. I look forward to reading more from this beautiful series.

This was such a beautiful book , it gave me a whole new perspective on a lot of aspects of life , and there was a lot that I could connect with as well.
The main person is Marissa , she is a powerful woman and to travel through her life with her felt like an honour. The way the author has described what is happening in the journey, you feel as though you are there by her side going through it with her.
It is a great book and it definitely brings to life 'we all have our own true path' , very inspirational!

I am a big fan of Abby’s previous books and I absolutely loved reading her newest addition, Awakening. I found myself so drawn to Marissa’s journey of discovery and was often on the edge of my seat as she went through the ups and downs she experienced throughout the novel. If you are new to this author, make sure to also read the book, Energy healing made easy. I appreciate the way Abby makes everything so easy to read and understand and gives practical advice in this book. I also loved her book, How to be Well. I enjoyed it so much I read it in one day and then had to buy another copy for my best friend for her birthday. If you are a healer or interested in positive energy work and helpful techniques that are also practical, Abby’s books will help you on your journey of awakenings.

I loved this book. It was so refreshing to read about someone starting out on their shamanic journey and I found lots of parallels to my own life.
The characters are really well-drawn and I found myself lost in the pages more than once.
Also, knowing what an experienced practitioner the author is I was delighted that there was no dumbing-down or sensationalizing of the spiritual aspects.

A fun adventure of a young woman on her unforseen quest. Somehow you want to follow her and see where it takes her. Interesting people come her way and help her. Synchronicity is everywhere. Following her intuition leads her to her real purpose.

I very much enjoyed following Marissa's journey as she steps on to the shamanic path in Book 1. I found that I could resonate with parts of it, and Abby captures the journeying elements so beautifully with her descriptions. I was dismayed when I reached the end, in part thanks to the great cliffhanger, and I cannot wait for Book 2 to be ready to read!

This book is such an amazing journey written so magically that the words, characters and scenes seem to dance off the pages and sweep the reader up into the story for hours. It's full of courage and awe inspiring moments that somehow magically intertwine into the reader's life lifting, inspiring and encouraging the inner knowing to light up and shine.

This is such a beautifully written book, we follow Marissa on her spiritual journey into Shamanism, Reiki and energy healing. I liked the character of Marissa, I thought she seemed very relatable as she follows what intrigues her and tries new things. How she has to balance this newfound passion with her job, her family and her studies to become a psychotherapist. And tea, lots of tea. I liked the peace and grounding Marissa felt when she imagined seeing her guardian angels, how they helped her in stressful or difficult situations. I think everyone could use an angel at times!
She’s a chunky one but a good read! I am definitely intrigued to see where Marissa goes next, especially after the ending.

This book is a real gem. I felt as if I was with Marissa every step of the way on her spiritual journey. The ending really had me on the edge of my seat and eagerly awaiting Book 2.
I've been a fan of Abby's for years and this book did not disappoint! I'll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on the second book.

This was such a delightful book of self discovery. I felt myself relating so much to and with Marissa. This book came at an interesting time for me as I'm struggling with my path at the moment, so I especially enjoyed reading about Marrissa's journey of discovery, with the hope it will help me on mine. I'm excited to read more by this author

I wrote this book! So it's difficult to write a review. I will leave that to everyone else. But I do want to say that my intention for this book is many-fold. Besides always wanting to write a novel, I wanted to write something that people would find fun and enjoyable to read. But it has to be multi-layered, it must go deeper.
My experience with healing allows me to explore the human psyche, unpick the tangles to find the wounding and discover disconnections that happen where life gets in the way. I can help to heal the broken parts, and through story I want to weave the mythical aspect of us back into our humanity. We must learn how to heal ourselves, and remember how powerful we actually are. So, these books are a fictional story presenting spirituality and healing work in a magical way. I want to stimulate people as to what is possible, remind them of what they’ve forgotten, and rekindle something inside of them they may have lost. I hope you enjoy reading these books as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

When I started reading Awakening, I knew nothing about Shamanism or spiritual healing, other than once visiting a Reiki practitioner (so I could review my experience for a magazine). Awakening is quite an eye-opener. I learnt so much.
I was very excited by the idea of the oracle cards and purchased a set as soon as I finished reading the book. I wish I could have ‘Bear’ as my spirit guide all the time. I also purchased a sage smudge stick. I love the smell, it’s gorgeous. Sorry, I’m rambling.
Marissa is struggling to get over the break-up of her relationship with James. They were going to get married, have two children – a girl and a boy – and spend the rest of their lives together. Then James left her and she still doesn’t know why. He married someone else and started a family with her.
Marissa has a boring job in an office, where she works with Sarah. She is also training to be a psychotherapist. Sarah persuades her to go to Peru and having just received some money from an uncle, she can afford to go. It’s not the kind of thing she usually does. And while for Sarah, it’s a holiday with the hope of finding romance, for Marissa, it’s the trip of a lifetime. She discovers her talent for healing and it changes the direction that her life is taking.
Her spiritual adventure will lead her to Shamanism, Reiki and guardian angels, amongst other paths. The ‘journeys’ she takes as part of her training are described in such detail and are wrapped around a story of lost love, being an outsider in a Jewish family (my Jewish mother married a Polish Catholic so this I understand), finding oneself and learning to love and trust again. It’s a beautiful book with a message for all of us: ‘we each must find our own true path through life, our one true way.’

This is the first book in the Inner compass trilogy. An unusual story of a woman finding her spiritual guide and studying energy healing. But after first excitement she found out that there’s not only light in the world of magic…
I love the main character! Even though I’m far from shamanism, Reiki and the other things like this, I felt so related to Marissa. And it was so easy to read - I just couldn’t stop (I’m not a native English speaker). This story is about finding yourself, about truly good things in the world and our ability to fight darkness. It awakes the best side of ourselves. Highly recommend the book!
