Today’s world is increasingly oriented towards the internet, with countless people working, learning, playing, and socializing online. Our experience over the last two years dealing with the global Covid-19 pandemic only served to drive more people into virtual spaces. Even as the pandemic starts to fade away and life returns to normal, the online trend seems irreversible and perhaps expands faster than ever.

One of the drivers behind this trend is the advancement of what’s referred to as Web 3.0. This refers to a decentralized internet that allows creators to build their networks and systems. Blockchain technology plays a significant role in this advanced version of the internet and is what supports cryptocurrencies. The culmination of these factors and new capacities has made the metaverse concept possible.

Remote Work Accelerated By Pandemic

The metaverse is a virtual landscape that can be populated with people, events, and items that function very similarly to the real world. With more people showing interest in these virtual worlds and spending hours online, it makes perfect sense that businesses would follow suit. Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrencies make it possible to buy and sell unique physical and virtual goods with high security and confidence.

Fashion Industry Embraces Metaverse

The fashion industry is among the pioneers embracing the metaverse, evident in several ways. In this piece, we’ll be exploring the intersection between fashion and the metaverse, highlighting the steps that have been made so far and what we might expect to come along in the near future.

Let’s get right into it.

Fashion Shows in the Metaverse

One of the latest trends lighting up the metaverse is virtual fashion shows. The fashion world recently assembled for the Metaverse Fashion Week, which ran from March 24–27. It took place at Decentraland, one of many popular virtual world platforms making up the metaverse. Visitors were treated to runway shows, panel discussions, after parties, and other immersive experiences.

The show saw over 60 brands, artists, and designers bringing their unique talents to the mix. The Luxury Fashion District was a popular attraction for visitors. It was set up and presented by Vogue Arabia in conjunction with UNXD and welcomed the online debut of various global luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Guo Pei, Jacob & Co, and Imitation of Christ. The cosmetics giant Estee Lauder also made an appearance.

Virtual Fashion Shows

The Parcel-MetaParty Community Precinct was another major draw, featuring musicians, mini-games, parkour features, DJs, and intriguing panel discussions. Decentraland’s creator community set up the multi-level area and was constantly booming with energy. The success of the Metaverse Fashion Week is a sure sign that this trend is no fad but a sure indicator of what’s to come in the future. We can definitely look forward to bigger, better shows.

Digital Clothing for Video Game Characters

Online gaming is one of the most popular hobbies today, with fans spread out across all bounds of race, age, and nationality. Unlike in the past, online gaming is not restricted to those with personal computers. Still, it has spread out to include people playing on consoles such as the Playstation, Xbox, smartphones, tablets, etc. One of the ways people like to differentiate themselves and gain some level of uniqueness in online environments is through their ability to change their clothing.

Typically, games give you a limited selection of costumes to choose from. Still, online gaming makes it possible to broaden the options available to players almost limitlessly. In addition, the evolution of these systems is bringing about radical changes, such as the capacity to have NFTs linked to the clothes avatars wear. This opens up a vast new world of unique, collectible, one-of-a-kind clothing items. One in which these NFTs representing wearables for characters could be traded and sold with other players.

Video Game Character Skins

Roblox, for example, recently introduced a Layered Clothing option, meaning that players could put on more than one layer of clothing on their avatar. So one can for example, put on a jacket on top of the t-shirt your avatar had on without any problems. The virtual fashion and cosmetics industry, dealing with avatar skins and outfits, is a multi-billion dollar industry already and looks set to continue growing. This is a big step forward and signals the direction of the gaming industry in terms of fashion and outfit options.

Showrooms in the Metaverse

The metaverse offers up plenty of benefits to shoppers and businesses alike. The fact that virtual stores can be kept open 24-hours a day, every day of the week, and have negligible overheads makes them especially beneficial to businesses. A great way to display products and goods to clients is by setting up showrooms.

With the metaverse continuing to develop, there will be plenty of online destinations where companies can set up virtual showrooms where they can display their products. Things can be set up so that potential clients can explore your products on their own or be guided by sales representatives or AI-based chatbots. This will allow customers to interact with the product virtually before purchasing it. The shelves and spaces can be filled up with digital twins of items that exist in the real world, and buyers will receive the physical version of the digital product they picked out in a company’s showroom.

Virtual Showrooms

All this will, of course, apply to the fashion industry. Visitors to the metaverse will be able to walk into a clothing store of their choice and pick out whatever clothes they fancy. It would even be possible to try on the selected clothes with your own virtual avatar so you can see how the clothing would look on you. In addition, with advances in technology, it will be possible to get correct sizing by using your digital avatar. The result is an incredibly immersive and realistic shopping experience that will add more depth and connection with fashion brands and consumers.

Avatar Wearables

Human beings have an innate desire to be unique and stand out from the crowd. Which makes them especially attracted to social media platforms that allow them to differentiate themselves from other users. Instagram filters are a great example of this phenomenon, but the growing avatar fashion industry looks set to overtake it. While massively popular games such as Fortnite and Call of Duty were pioneers in replaceable skins or costumes. The metaverse is opening up another world where fashion will play a prominent role.

The potential of the metaverse is significantly more impressive because participants will congregate on these platforms for a wide variety of reasons aside from playing games. For example, shopping, learning, entertainment, concerts, museum tours, and all sorts of activities you could imagine will all have the potential to occur in the metaverse. If all these activities are taking place and you interact in different settings. Everything from working out, virtual meetings, hanging out with overseas friends, and attending a concert, the same need for different outfits for various environments will apply to the metaverse. With so many online participants, the potential market for avatar wearables and NFTs will grow proportionally.

Augmented and Virtual Reality Clothing for E-Commerce Stores

The biggest challenge facing online clothing and fashion retailers has always been the inability to have clients feel and interact with the items under consideration. The metaverse hopes to overcome this limitation by facilitating augmented and virtual reality solutions, which allow users to gain a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of the items they are eyeing. The difference between AR and VR is that Augmented reality only seeks to complement the real world. In contrast, virtual reality tries to provide a more wholly immersive experience to its users. Though there is a fashion use for AR, with the ability to have clothing items come alive or interact with the environment when viewed through a phone or special eyewear.

Tying NFTs to Physical Fashion Items

When the NFT scene first started gaining widespread fame, many people asked themselves how they could appreciate digital art and fashion in the same way as physical items. While most people now have some rudimentary understanding of how NFTs gain and retain their value. Thanks in part to widespread engagement with cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Some might still be confused regarding the tying of NFTs to physical items.

Tying NFTs to physical items will require a few steps. First that the NFT creator mints the token using smart contracts so that they can define the ownership and transferability capabilities of the NFT. Among these details and parameters will be the assignment of the item or items that the tokens will represent in the virtual world.

Fashion NFTs Linked To Real Clothing Items

In the case of a large retailer, multiple tokens might be assigned to represent a type of shirt, for example. You could also go the other way when the items in question are unique and have each item tied to a unique NFT. Once this information is sent into the blockchain, ownership can be transferred, much like we do when dealing with physical objects.

Clothing with Scannable Codes Linked to NFTs

In many cases, fashion approximates art closely, with certain high-end pieces of clothing selling for astronomical prices. But what’s the point of owning a sweater worth thousands of dollars if nobody knows about it? NFTs make it possible to link fashion items with NFTs. You can then have a scannable QR code embedded in the clothing item. That, when scanned, will redirect to the NFT, where the garment’s ownership history, price, and any other relevant information will be on full display. How cool is that? We can now add verifiable provenance to clothing items. Imagine buying a jacket worn by Beyonce and having it authenticated and linked to an NFT that proves ownership history.

Shopping for Real-World Items in the Metaverse

The metaverse is set to revolutionize how businesses conduct themselves. The fashion industry seems to be among the first to embrace it. While gaming megahits such as Call of Duty and Fortnite were among the first to bring the concept of purchasing virtual clothing or ‘skins’ to most people.

There’s plenty more opportunity outside of gaming. Take, for example, the average consumer who loves clothing. Of course, there is a limit to how many fashion items they could buy due to budget or closet space. But with digital fashion, you can buy considerably more fashion pieces than you could physically.

Luxury fashion retailers such as Fendi and Ralph Lauren have been some of the first companies to establish virtual stores that mirror their real-life counterparts. Here shoppers can browse, try on, and purchase whatever fashion accessories they like. According to industry insiders, this trend has the potential to change the retail landscape by extending the supply chain dramatically. From a business growth point of view, the basic idea is to bring in an entirely new market segment.

Shopping In The Metaverse

Even in cases where clients prefer to do their clothes shopping in real life, many retail executives hope that consumers will use a mixture of both. After browsing through their catalogs in their virtual stores, potential customers come to their retail outlets. To this end, various companies are offering to create virtual replicas of their existing capital goods, industry processes, and existing structures. By providing a virtual shopping experience that can be modified and adjusted to attract whatever type of customer businesses are targeting, the fashion industry’s future in the metaverse is looking bright.

Major Clothing Brands in the Metaverse

With major corporations figuring out that the secret to future success lies online, several prominent fashion brands have made the leap and established a metaverse presence. These include:

  • Nike: The company has built up a presence in Roblox, a triple-A online game. Their metaverse version, known as Nikeland, features virtual galleries where users can browse and shop for their favorite virtual sneakers.
  • Adidas: Chose The Sandbox, a decentralized platform, as its metaverse platform of choice. The company is partnering with Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), PunksComic, Gmoney, etc. They recently sold off 30,0000 NFTs that offer their clients online perks and benefits and could potentially be redeemed for real online goodies.
  • Gucci: This high-end retailer has purchased an undisclosed amount of land in The Sandbox. Reports indicate their intentions of creating a fashion experience designed to attract the Gen Z client base.

Aside from the notable examples above, other companies that have already dipped their feet into the metaverse include Louis Vuitton, Tommy Hilfiger, Forever 21, and Ralph Lauren.

Final Thoughts

The metaverse is shaping up to be a massive leap in how we do things in the future. According to many experts, it is projected that all the things we currently do on the internet today will eventually be carried out in the metaverse. Major tech companies such as Facebook (Meta) are investing considerable sums in creating their own metaverse worlds such as Decentraland, Somnium Space, The Sandbox, etc. The fashion industry seems to be following suit closely.

Metaverse World For Work, Play & Socializing

The decentralized nature of Web 3.0 and blockchain technologies go hand-in-hand with the creative, independent nature of the fashion world, making them a perfect fit. As we move into the future, all signs indicate that we will see the metaverse expand its influence on fashion trends and how we interact with retail fashion outlets. As things appear to be at the moment, this future vision will be an exciting one to experience.

How Our NFT Project Ties to All of This

This brings us to our NFT project, House of Fashion.
Combining our existing disciplines of fashion design and art into an NFT project means there are many different areas we’ll be able to provide value. It also allows us to do some really creative, exciting surprises for holders.

As our artist & founder stated…

“There are so many creative ideas I’ve wanted to do but always felt limited by physical art, now through NFT’s I can explore my wildest imagination of fashion and art combined.” — LCamero

First, it would help to understand our existing brands.

LCamero Brand is a full ready-to-wear fashion line founded in 2018 and designed for those confident and bold who like to stand out from the crowd. Known for its vibrant colors and original, eye-catching designs. Having launched two successful collections, the brand has also been featured in prominent publications, such as Voyage Miami. In addition, the playful pieces have also been showcased on numerous runways. You can learn more about LCamero Brand in our media kit.

LCamero Brand Fashion Shows

LCamero Art is an existing line of physical fine art paintings. Which have been featured in publications such as VoyageMIA and Shout Out Miami. In addition, LCamero Art has been included in exhibitions across the Miami art scene, including a satellite exhibition for the prestigious Miami Basel in 2018. You can learn more about LCamero Art in our media kit.

LCamero Art Work

House of Fashion though its own independent project, will benefit from those two existing creative disciplines. As it allows us to tap into our ability to create physical fashion items to create limited edition clothing items only available to House of Fashion holders. This is very different from merch that you see in every project’s roadmap, as these clothing items would not just be something we stuck our logo on. But an article of clothing designed that you would want to wear out on a typical night out. This is just one example of how our experience will translate to a unique value to House of Fashion holders.

Our experience working with fine art paintings and prints allows us to tap into our ability to create physical versions of our digital art. Allowing our holders to gain access to museum-quality prints of their NFTs. While also having physical fashion-themed paintings that will be redeemable by holders through exclusive House of Fashion holder giveaways.

LCamero x House of Fashion

This is only scratching the surface of what we have planned for House of Fashion. We see this NFT project as being able to play a pivotal role in digital fashion, digital collectibles, and real-life fashion pieces. Our roadmap includes an immersive experience about the world of fashion and its impact on society and culture.
