Publisher's summary

Gabe wants Alec between the sheets...too bad Alec's undercover already....

Rich kid. Party boy. Gabe is tired of the labels. He's a smart guy, but ever since he got kicked out of grad school, people are only interested in his no-limit credit card and his pierced ears...and other places.

Tall, dark, and scowling Alec hates Vermont, with its artisanal-freaking-everything and its irritating people. To be fair, most people irritate Alec, including the FBI director who sent him here to investigate a smuggling scheme involving yoga mats.

When one of the cutest twinks Alec's ever seen takes an interest, Alec knows there's an ulterior motive. No one with multi-colored hair, piercings, and an ass like that would want boring, serious Alec. The kid must be up to no good. Either way, Alec can't blow his cover. If only he could keep his hands off of Gabe long enough to find out what he's up to....

Can they ignore their explosive chemistry long enough to foil a smuggling ring? Or will their budding relationship sink faster than a yacht full of contraband?

Contains mature themes.

Good story. Good narration.

The story and narration were both entertaining. The chemistry between the characters didn't quite work for me, but I kept getting distracted by the law enforcement details. Well, the lack of law enforcement details. I am a mystery and true crime fan so I am particular about how law enforcement is portrayed. Gabe and Alec were interesting characters. The plot had some potential, but this story will be enjoyed best if you are focusing on the dynamic between Gabe and Alec.

Bliss Overload

First off, this book made me feel the characters emotions so intensely that my hands shook or I even looked up when one of them did. This is a genre I really like, but not a single other book has had that effect. It could just be me. My heart pounded and not just at the sex stuff. I’m writing this with raised blood pressure, a purely visceral response to an emotional book.
Maybe being both a science minded person and one who struggles with expression when it truly matters made this click so hard for me. It’s fantasy. It’s not all that realistic in parts, which is part of the genre, and I wish to heck I’d checked to see if this had become a series. It could be one easily. I expect in that I will be disappointed, but it sets my imagination loose in hopes that our characters can face adventure together. Also that little gnawing cliffhanger (it’s very small but boy would I like to see it fulfilled instead of hinted at) at the end could really be given words or shown in shining images. It’s a small thing but I strongly identify with an individual who may be walking around with something burning a hole in his pocket soon. Aside from that, this hit a lot of the right notes for me. God damn!

Rushed but decent

So I liked the first half of it better than the 2nd. Would have preferred more character development, MCs and others... and the big break up and finish was too quick and easy for the level of betrayal. But I was entertained enough

Oldie but Goodie

Though it has been a story I read before, in so many ways, this book left me wanting for more! Romance still alive!

Great!

I looooove a good "falling for the mark/suspect" plot. And hey, it's set in my state! And like... near where I live, so I could easily picture the area they were talking about. I adored these two.

Sweet story

Narrators were both amazing, they always are though.
The story was cute, I meant to start the book before going to bed, but ended up staying up till midnight to finish it. the characters were both relatable, and the spice was on point.

Pauses

Fun story, perhaps the approach to investigating the crime is more lighthearted than the subject would call for.
The narrator has fun comedic timing. The only stumbling block for me is that there is often NO pause for silence between scenes, so it takes a lot longer for the reader to realize there was a scene change, than it should.

Lovely, heartwarming and steamy

I sincerely don't understand why people were so critical in their reviews. They were so negative I only ended up reading because my OCD won't let me skip a book in a series. I'm glad I did, because the book was great and so was the narration.
It threw me off initially, because there was already a Gabriel in this series and these characters were not tangentially introduced in previous books, but honestly, the only thing I wish was different about this book was its length. I would have liked a deeper look at the characters, more banter, more interactions with family and friends, more sex scenes. Though the scene with the manties was super hot.

Unnecessary

Out of all the V&V books this one seemed….. unnecessary. Doesn’t flow well with the other books and it’s also feel random in almost all chapters. It was an ok read, but nothing special.

Falling in love while pretending to be someone else

I really enjoyed Alec and Gabe’s opposites attract romance with a side of undercover FBI agent. Gabe is a rich guy who is feeling rudderless after being expelled from his PhD program. Alec is an FBI agent working undercover investigating a drug smuggling ring and Gabe’s family may be involved. They run into each other accidentally while browsing books at Vino & Veritas. There is a lot of internal angst and c’mere, c’mere, get away, get away while Alec struggles with his professional and personal morals and his growing attraction to Gabe and Gabe struggles with his personal crisis of faith and his attraction to Alec. The book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, painful pasts, and all the heart squeezing love. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I will definitely keep reading more of this series.

Cooper North and Tim Paige did a phenomenal job narrating the story and breathing life into the characters with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.
