Publisher's summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Elle Kennedy comes an addictive new adult series set against the backdrop of an elite prep school where the only thing more dangerous than the powerful seniors who rule without consequences are the secrets they’re keeping.

Welcome to Sandover Prep, where the delinquents roam…and you can’t trust a soul.

Finding out your mom is marrying some rich guy you’ve never met is enough to make any 18-year-old’s head spin. And for RJ Shaw, it gets worse: He’s being sent to Sandover Prep for senior year. If there’s one place a misfit hacker like RJ doesn’t belong, it’s an ivy-covered all-boys boarding school for rich delinquents. There’s no point trying to get along with anyone. That is, until he meets Sloane Tresscott in the woods on the outskirts of campus. Gorgeous and sharp-tongued, Sloane is pure temptation. Except Sloane is the one girl he’s forbidden from touching. The headmaster’s daughter.

Good thing RJ doesn’t believe in rules. Sure, Sloane insists she’s swearing off boys this year, but he wants her bad, and he’s going to win her over if it kills him—unless her ex-boyfriend, the ruling king of Sandover, kills him first. Luckily, RJ’s unwittingly made some friends. His new stepbrother Fenn, a pretty boy with a self-destructive streak. Lawson, self-proclaimed agent of chaos. And Silas, the All-American good guy who can’t actually be as nice as he seems.

If RJ wants to survive prep school and win Sloane’s heart, he’ll need to find the secrets hidden in the walls of Sandover.

Meh

I’m a big fan, but this isn’t up to her other work. There are so many character voices, so there isn’t much room for individual development. No one gets to be fully fleshed out, and some of the behavior is super gross, so it’s hard to care what happens to them.

Really good!

This was good! I am a fan of Elle Kennedy’s writing so when this book landed on my doorstep, I could not wait to read it. I liked the multiple points of view used to tell this story and I liked most of the characters but I felt like RJ, Sloane, and Fenn were the ones that shined which worked perfectly since they seemed to be at the center of the action most often. The story follows a group of boys that attend a private all-boys prep school called Sandover Prep. We also meet the headmaster’s daughters who are hard to resist.

I enjoyed watching RJ and Fenn, who have recently become stepbrothers, start to bond. RJ had a lot of work to do to start fitting into the school, and I love that he took his own path which wasn’t always easy. I thought that the romance portion of the story was very well done and I appreciated the fact that there was even a bit of mystery worked into the story. I listened to the audiobook and thought that each of the narrators did a great job of bringing this story to life. I loved the fact that each of the different perspectives used a different narrator. I cannot wait to read more of this series!

I received a review copy of this book from Bloom Books.

Love the book and the audiobook did not disappoint

The first time I read this book I was sucked in instantly and couldn’t put it down. Upon finishing it, I immediately purchased the audiobook and was not disappointed!

One of the things I enjoyed the most are the multiple POVs. Since this is a series and there is a healthy undertones of mystery/suspense, I think hearing the first person voices of multiple characters really helps to add depth to the story. I’ve read quite a few reviews that don’t like the points of view, but I thought it worked in this book!

As for the narration, it is very well done. Silas and Lawson are my favorite personally, just because of their tones.

All in all, I would 100% recommend!

Misfit isn't sure what it wants to be.

This book was not really sure what it was going for. If you read even a handful of reviews, you will see so many comparisons to one book or show or another. That is because this book feels like it pulled one character from this book, and one trope from that show, and one scene from this one and one plot from that one and mashed them all together. Misfit isn't sure what it wants to be when it grows up. But it is a high school book, so I'm sure we didn't have high expectations for it in the first place.

As for the audiobook, I loved all the narrators in this book, most of them are voices that I have listened to before! The issue I have is that most of them are full-grown adults narrating 18 year old high school kids. It is hard to feel like this is a high school book when some of the narrators are near 40. So, as great as they did narrating, they could never sound like a teenager and play that part flawlessly.

Love RJ and Sloane!!

Misfit by Elle Kennedy was a new adult romance with all the angst, secrets, swoon, and spice! This is book 1 in Elle's Prep series, and this book captivated and intrigued me from start to finish. RJ and Sloane and all of their Prep school buddies are indeed a bunch of misfits with their own baggage to battle and overcome, but being able to rely on and trust each other is their best quality...or is it? I loved every bit of RJ and Sloane's journey to HEA, and we are just starting with this group!

Stella Bloom and Jason Clarke narrate the lead in this audiobook performing the roles of Sloane and RJ. Stella did a fantastic job portraying Sloane's tough girl exterior but also peeled back those layers and conveyed her vulnerabilities. Jason's portrayal of broody, loner, and persistent RJ was spot on. Jason fully embodied RJ, especially in some intensely emotional scenes which made me feel all the things. The supporting characters, Fenn, Silas, and Lawson were voiced by Nelson Hobbs, Christian Fox, and Lee Samuels. These guys added so much perspective and insight to these characters that I can't wait to find out more!

Overall, I LOVED this audiobook. If you are a fan of a new adult romance with a hot hunky computer hacker, a fierce and sassy headmaster's daughter, a prep school for rich delinquents, a new stepbrother, meet-ups in the woods, joining a swim team, best buds, possessive exes, secrets revealed, betrayal, angst, heartache, drama, slow-burn steamy times, second chances, and a HEA that will satisfy your heart for the moment, but also leave you longing for more, then you will love Sloane and RJ's story. I can't wait for more from Elle Kennedy!

Super Story, Superb Narration!

Both the story and the narration was fantastic! This book is everything I love about the author’s style and the multi pov narration (especially this group of actors) sucks you right into the story. Couldn’t stop listening and can’t wait for book 2!!!
