Moo U #11

Goalkeeper

Rate this book
Winning games has always been his focus, but will winning her heart become the ultimate goal?

Everyone at Moo U knows the party doesn’t start until Paige Underwood arrives. Not only is she beautiful, she’s fun and charming too. Guys want to date her, and girls want to be her best friend. All Paige wants is to have a good time and make videos for her beauty channel--and maybe get that girl down the hall to do her eyeliner correctly. Is that too much to ask?

According to her parents, yes. They’ve said the party’s over and that it’s time to get focused.

Spencer Briggs knows all about focus. He’s had one goal since he set foot on the ice as a kid: make it to the NHL. After years of hard work and endless practice, he’s the starting goalie for Moo U and mere steps away from his dream. He can’t afford distractions, and isn’t interested in relationships. And he definitely can’t afford to flirt back with the gorgeous girl in his lit class.

He needs to stay serious. She needs to get serious. But now serious sparks are flying . . .

Paige + Spencer.
Paige's family is all about careers. Lawyers. Doctors.
She's the only one who doesn't want that - she loves her youtube make-up business. But that's not a career according to her parents.
And Spencer. He doesn't have time to date. To party. To have fun. He and his dad have been all about hockey since Spencer was six years old.
But now there's this amazing and beautiful girl ... and hockey is not everything anymore.

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN! ☺

Well, that was cute.

Aside from hating both their parents for being idiots - like in so many books these days (why, authors?) - this book seemed to be a pretty drama-free college romance! Which I kinda love. I hate those over-the-top-drama story lines that you get in every book and that nobody needs. But then ... this was maybe a tiny litte bit too drama-free. There are just the parents and their plans for Paige and Spencer. And we just know that there will be something happening one day ... but other than that it really was pretty drama free. BUT ... I still really liked reading it. It was funny and adorable and frustrating and sweet and sexy and hockey-y and make-up-y. I really liked Spencer and Paige. And their friends and roommates. I didn't mind the drama-free-ness. And it's not that nothing happens at all. Things happen. Ugh. I totally messed this review up now! Don't listen to me. READ THIS BOOK! 🤣

I could read these kinds of books every day for the rest of eternity!

I also wouldn't mind seeing this whole world on Netflix one day!

Can't wait to get more Vermont soon!

Oh, a tiny thing about the writing. Don't worry, this probably won't bother anyone but me. The word YEAH. I don't have anything against that word. And I would've probably survived the 112 YEAHs used in this book too. BUT! At least 107 of those YEAHs were spelled: YEA. And I just couldn't handle that. That's a completely different word/sound! So weird.

GOALKEEPER was an adorable + funny + frustrating college hockey + make-up romance! I loved reading it! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Spence - he'll be sold out in no time!

This is how you #NewAdult and get me to *happy sigh swoon* Well done!

This was unbelievably cute! No, it was delightful. It was swoony. It was easy like Sunday morning. It was just plain good! Both Spencer and Paige were a delight to read and wrapped up in. I’m pretty much twice their age and I want to be their BFF. I want to live in their journey! Who is this magical author?!

This was my favourite of the series. The characters were actually relatable and the female character didn't suddenly become unhinged or neurotic in order to create drama like in almost every other book in the series.

I liked the plot and the side characters felt like real people finally! Every other book the side characters felt really flat and pointless, but here the entire cast of characters were interesting and also relevant to the story and the relationship.

Pretty refreshing honestly but this series has also reinforced the fact that in my personal opinion MM romance is just better! CU Hockey and Puckboys by Eden Finley & Saxon James, plus Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid are the gold standard for me when it comes to hockey romance and this series didn't even come close to those books.

I want emotion and engaging stories with relatable characters and I genuinely think this was the only book in the Moo U series that delivered on those things, and did it well. I actually could have kept reading more about these characters!

I don't know why I am struggling to write this review. I really enjoyed the book. I’m loving this True North world even if a few of the books haven’t been my cup of tea. I am loving getting to meet new to me authors and all the great reads I have found. I love that they are all standalones with a few of the same overlapping characters. And this book really worked for me and has given me a new to stalk author. But I am struggling to sit down and actually write a review, I think my brain is just a little fried with all the kid’s coordination.

I apologise in advance if this reads like a toddler wrote it, I feel like I just want to say the characters were great, the story was enjoyable, read the book but I’m guessing I need to write more than that. So, I’ll start with Paige, she was really likable. One of those new adult characters that if you met her in real life you would kind of want to hate her for how beautiful and together she is, but you can’t because she is just as beautiful inside as she is out. And getting to see her flaws and insecurities through her point of view helped me not hate her even more. Ok I’ll admit it I’m kinda crushing on Paige.

Spencer was a bit of a pain. He was awesome but he was also kind of self-absorbed but not in a nasty way just he was so focused on hockey and under so much pressure he had wicked tunnel vision. And although he and Paige couldn’t have been any more different if they tried, he gave great boyfriend. Even when he messed up, he realised his mistake pretty quickly and worked hard to fix his failings.

I really did enjoy the whole story and the secondary characters were great. I’m heading off to find out if they are all getting their own stories, especially Paige’s brother. Toodles Pretties.

Goalkeeper by Andi Burns came as an unexpected surprise! I not only loved Andi Burns writing style, I also loved these characters so much! Spencer and Paige's story was a great read!

In My Own Words:

Spencer is on his way to the NHL and with that it takes a day to day dedication. He has to eat the right foods, practice with the right coaches, and be the best goalie he can be. He has no time for distractions and no time for girlfriends, all it takes is one slip up for his dreams to come tumbling down all around him. So when Paige walks into his life, he knows he's about to be royally screwed.

Enter Paige Underwood, the woman every man dreams of being with. If it isn't her smile that draws them in, it's her sweetheart vibes. Underneath the surface, Paige is more than just a pretty face. She's smart and with those smarts her parents expect her to carry on the family line and become a lawyer. But Paige has other dreams, she wants to carry on her beauty vlog and one day expand her brand. When she sets her eyes on Spencer at a party, her dreams are about to become bigger and brighter than ever before.

My Thoughts:

Andi Burns just sunk her claws into me!! There is no denying the fact, I loved Spencer and Paige's story so much!! Everything from their chemistry to their connection was on point! This author just walked away with my heart!

Let's face the facts, Goalkeeper may just be my favorite book in the MOO U series! The answer to why is simple, I loved the sweetheart vibes and the friendship evolving into something more was raw and real. At first sight it doesn't look like these two have much in common. Spencer is all about hockey and Paige doesn't know the first thing about hockey. Paige is all about her beauty vlog, and Spencer doesn't have the slightest clue what the difference between eye liner and lip liner is. But beneath the surface, these two are battling a greater cause. Their meddling fathers. They both want a life outside of their parent's high expectations, and they both want to make their parents proud, but what happens when what their parent's want isn't exactly what they see for their lives. Then comes the war of the century.

I loved the fact that Spencer and Paige were both each other's safe place..... until the stress became to much to handle and one acted like a giant dick.... But throughout the novel, they were each other's confidant. They were each other's shoulder and buffer. I loved their bond from start to finish. My heart wouldn't stop racing for these two. From their silly banter to their sexy as sin scenes, these two had me flipping the pages faster than my kindle could handle.

Overall, Goalkeeper was an entertaining read. I loved everything about Spencer and Paige's story! this one is definitely worth the read!!

I've enjoyed Paige and Spencer's story so much, it was nice and easy to follow their journey, even though some characters made me angry.

Paige Underwood and Spencer Briggs are opposites, extroverted and easy going the first, shy and introverted the latter but they easily bonded over their difficult relationship with their insufferable and hard to please parents. Briggs' father wants him only dedicated to hockey, he keeps pressure him to be the best player of his team in order to not lose his place on the NHL. Page's parents instead want her only dedicated to study for the test that will admit her to law school. You can see that they don't have much time to do something other than training and studying but their relationship grows nonetheless, their physical chemistry and attracion are hard to tame and refrain.

They are lovely and sweet, I hated to see them so stressed at times but it was really sweet to see them to comfort each other and to stick together.
I loved how Paige helped Spencer to become more confident speaking in front of people and how he makes her feel always appreciated in whatever she does.

Goalkeeper is the last book in the MooU series and I'm a little sad to say goodbye to these characters, I'm sure I'll go back and reread most of them.

ARC received for an honest review

Well this was just cute (except for, again, douchebag parents - whyyyyyy???)

I love that Paige marches to the beat of her own drummer when it comes to what she does with her life, not what her parents (ugh) want her to do.

Spencer has his life all lined up - well, it is his dad living vicariously through him that is pushing the agenda.

But I loved how both of them find each other, and in each other they find the strength to stand up to their families, Plus, they are just so darn adorable, I couldn't help but be their biggest cheerleader,

Their circle of friends are fantastic, and I think we all need people like then around us

I want more Moo U - I will always want more.

Family expections

These two both have their families expecting much more than they realistically can. Spencer is the Moo U team goalie, shy and focused. He's trying to live up to his father's unreal expectations. Paige is sociable and a beauty Youtubber. Her parents expect her to become a lawyer. These two are total opposites attract and yet they are perfect for each other. Their families cause their problems but these two work together to stay together. Perfect end to this amazing series, that I will read multiple times and another new author to follow. Perfect romance reading.

This was such a fun, light hearted romance (despite their dumb parents) that I loved so much! Spencer and Paige are very opposite, but they work in the best of ways and truly bring out the best in each other as well. They have such a fun, loving, healthy relationship and they help one another thrive as well. These two have an insane amount of chemistry and just light up the page!

This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be the last!

This book was so good! Paige and Spence don’t fit into the molds their families want to force them into, and together they find who they’re truly meant to be. Sexy, but also real in all of the little details that make up day to day life. I loved these characters and was left wanting even more!

Goalkeeper is the last book in the Moo U series set in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North. It’s a great addition to the series, and can be definitely be read as a standalone.

I had a great time reading Goalkeeper, Spencer and Paige’s story. He’s Moo U’s goalie and is destined for NHL glory, if he can keep his focus on hockey. Golies are bendy by nature, but Spence is a bit too rigid in his determination. That is, until he gets up close and personal with Paige at a party he didn’t want to attend. And now he can’t stop thinking about her.

I really liked Paige and Spencer together. They make each other better. They help each other find balance in their lives. The chemistry between them in instantaneous and explosive, and they’re so much fun. It’s a very I’m a bit tired of overbearing parents, but in this case it works very well for the story. All in all, it’s a heartfelt, steamy, and entertaining sports romance with great characters and a great story.

Goalkeeper is an opposites attract love story that includes plenty of heat, explosive chemistry and late night study sessions combined with makeup tutorials and extreme parental pressure. It’s about finding and being true to yourself and prioritizing what’s really important. I highly recommend it.

I am so glad this series is over. I had hoped that maybe the last book would be an improvement over the many disappointments, but sadly this one just affirmed my rather low opinion of this series. It wasn't awful, but it was boring, and I couldn't relate to any of the characters. There was too much sex for filler and not enough hockey. I was skimming towards the end, and outright skipping over sex scenes. It really tried to make the reader believe there was substance to these juvenile protagonists, but in my opinion it was just so much empty air. Two stars is generous.

Spencer Briggs is the goalie for the Moo U hockey team and he has his eye on the prize. He no longer parties, he only studies and lives and breathes hockey. Paige Underwood is the life of the party, she's smart, nice and pretty and she's also a beauty influencer. During a party at the hockey house, Paige and Spencer flirt and even have hope for where the night will end but chaos kind Of ensues and Paige disappears. Once the school semester starts, Paige and Spencer find themselves in the same class and have to work on a project together. Paige was very likable and I loved her family, even though they kind of went through a small rough patch, they all loved and cared for each other. Spencer was a good guy, but his father made him one track minded on hockey and his dad was an ass. Spencer worked hard and he was already drafted into the NHL but his dad just kept putting pressure on him. Paige and Spencer got together real fast and it felt like their relationship went from zero to one-hundred in just two seconds. At times it felt like Paige just went with the flow and Spencer wouldn't deviate from his set plan. But when Spencer did mess up with Paige, he realized he was wrong immediately and did grovel. When it came to being an influencer, it felt like the author didn't do enough research on the subject which is why Paige's worries about money made no sense to me. The bonus epilogue was great but it was also confusing because it didn't explain why Spencer had already gone into the league and not finish school. I also wanted to know what happened with his father. The story was OK, I liked Paige and Spencer.

Outgoing Paige and MUCH more reserved Spencer are orbiting one another and MAN I LIKE THOSE TWO TOGETHER. Paige's bubbly personality against Spencer's awkwardness (the guy is not great in social situations!) are just fun. FUN.

So. They both have parental issues. Paige's parents have her future mapped out (more or less) and she's expected to fall into line even though she's really not into their vision for her. Spencer's dad is...well, he's something. Not a good something, either. Anywho. Parental issues. These two have them.

They also have some steamy looks and a little smolder. There might have even been sparks. Just kidding. There were a lot of sparks. And a gecko. Which did not spark, steam, or smolder in any way. Let's just say Paige and Spencer were good together when they managed to get out of their own way and let things happen.

*thumbs up*

Stopping the heart!

Spencer is the goalkeeper for Moo U hockey and is quite shy. He has a secret crush on Paige, a beautiful confident woman. When they end up handcuffed together at a party they see a new side to each other but this is short-lived after a misunderstanding. When they get paired together in a class, can they overcome their reticence and form a bond? Their chemistry and mutual attraction is a joy to read as is Spencer's evolvement from shy guy to confident boyfriend

I loved Paige and Spencer, the chemistry between them was fun and sometimes hot. They had a lot of problems, but also had a ton of happy times. They got their HEA that they both deserved.

Hoping to read more books in the Moo U series.

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

I've got another book to add to my Moo U favorites list! Goalkeeper is exactly what I'm looking for when I pick up a book in this series. It was so adorable! Shy goalie Spencer and party girl Paige were a perfect match. They got each other. I love when a couple gets each other the way these two did. It makes me believe they could go the distance. This book was so much fun. The amount of drama was just right and I loved how it all resolved. I hadn't read a book by Andi Burns before, but I will be checking out her backlist for sure!

This was a strong end to the series other than once again the problems with continuity.

MENTIONS OF THE WHOLE SERIES.

These are my thoughts on the series as a whole. It's fun if each of these were stand alone hockey novels with no overlap I would have enjoyed them more though. The problem is that a lot of the time after finishing one book I would be waiting for one about a specific player and then it wouldn't materialize and it would make it harder for me to get into the next book. The fact that there isn't a book for Cooper drives me insane. Then there's other stuff like how certain relationships will seem super important in one book and then non-existent in the next. Weston and Tate seemed pretty close in book 1 but he is never mentioned again. In Jonah and Ryann's book, Ryann puts a lot of emphasis on how close she and her brother are with the twins because of the loss of their parents. In both the twins books though Ryann's brother isn't mentioned once. I also would have thought he would get a book which he didn't. So many of the books would just suddenly introduce a new player that you had heard nothing about before but suddenly they were an integral part of the team. Like Forts and Church if they were such important players why weren't they mentioned before their own books. Church is a senior which means he was around for all the seasons in the previous books but he wasn't mentioned?!? Spencer gets mentioned in Forts' book but Church doesn't and then suddenly in Church's book he and Forts are close. I would have liked to see AJ get his girl and see how Rocky and Wags get together. And COOPER! Why no Cooper? Also all the girlfriends and their friends I would have liked to see more of them in the books that followed.

The biggest problem with this series is the fact that each book is written by a different author. I enjoyed all the stories and I say again had they not been connected I would have enjoyed all of them. The thing is though the continuity errors frustrated me and I would go to bed still thinking about how aspects of an event were different from one book to the next. The Co-ed game with the mixed teams which is first mentioned in Seb's book drove me crazy with how the details changed in each book. The other problem is the side characters you come to love in one book get no attention in the next because that author didn't connect with them or even really know about them. This is why Rebecca Jenshak's "Campus Nights" series is my favourite because yeah you get different stories with each book but you don't lose the characters you love.

I enjoyed the series and got through some of the books in one sitting but it would have been sooooo much better if there was only one author or at the very least a set plan when it came to events that would be mentioned in multiple books. The characters and their relationships to each other also should have been thought out more thoroughly to help with the cohesiveness of the series.

This series had so much potential and I really enjoyed most of the characters and their stories but it could have been executed so much more effectively and then it might have been one of my favourite hockey series.

I am so happy this book was where it leaves off. It wasn’t filled with childish dramalama.
It was kinda perfect. I love that Paige is at a crossroad she is on one path bit isn’t fully committed to it.
Spencer is very goal oriented but when he meets Paige he kind of find something else to put his efforts into.
I liked their dynamic, and yes there was a little bit of drama but it was warranted.
How Paige stands up for herself not only toward Spencer but her parents I loved that. And the relationship she has with her siblings all the hearts.
Great narration for this one too!

I hate to leave bad reviews but I just did not like this book at all. I should have stopped reading the book 1/4 in but instead I ended up skimming most the pages. Firstly, every scene where Paige films was so cringey to me. The way she spoke and her whole “pretties” thing made me skip reading those scenes all together. And the relationship between Paige and Spencer itself just moved way too fast. The writer makes a point of creating this shy and awkward character at the start of the book only for that to disappear completely 2 seconds after they get together. Makes no sense to me. And I understand that each book in this series is written by a different author, but the lack of consistency in the series is very frustrating. What happened to Hudson being the captain? And wouldn’t JD have graduated already? Having said that, I did skip a few of the last few books as I did not like them and stopped reading them a few chapters in. So maybe that lack of consistency could be due to that. But I unfortunately just could not enjoy this book.

and i’m freeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! okay but in all seriousness it was A Lot reading 10/11 books of this series in like a week!!

this one was on track to be my favorite of the group (despite paige being a beauty influencer!); i loved the settup and the chemistry and the fact that they didn’t fight it all that hard; they just went with what felt right!! but then at like 75% we got some weird time skipping summary scenes, and then The Big Fight happened and i was so disappointed in the wasted potential!! i loved paige’s presentation and her brother and the wooing was super cute but where was spence watching the breakup video!! i just needed a bit more to go from had a good time to something special. and talk about abrupt endings! i do wanna say that i think this one did the best of all of them of being part of a Series; noah being his fantastic self was everything we needed wanted deserved.

And this is why I dont read ya usually!

Omg this book is beyond frustrating.

Paige lives in Princess dream world, is entitled and so fucking annoying I wanted to shake her n say wake the fuck up little girl !

The whole car breakdown scene think I'm the only one that thinks Spenser was in the right!

Then all the grovelling he does afterwards, I had to skim it was pathetic.

Tf this series doesn't have another book out yet, cos I'm done.

Seriously I can think of better things to do than read about children playing at being children

No thanks unless you're 16 you may enjoy this book

This was cute but had to downgrade because Andi Burns does not know how social media and influencer marketing works. Google is your friend, Andi. Just a few clicks should tell you all you need to know to fix your weak storyline. h is a beauty influencer with 1,000,000 followers with astronomical growth from just 50,000 the previous year. And yet h is worried about money and/or not monetizing her social media presence. No way. No how. Not in 2021 or even by 2014 standards. h is getting paid! Make it make sense but nice beauty videos from the dorm closet, I guess.

i want to start of by saying that none of these 11 books did it better than the first. that one was elite.

and you know why a lot of them were annoying to read? because it was the SAME thing over and over again; parental problems!!!!!!!! why are none of your parents normal... it's weird.

overall it was enjoyable to read a female mc that was a bit different than the rest. it was a good end to the series because the characters actually stood out from the rest.

I absolutely love the Moo U series! Goalkeeper totally delivered! This was my first read by Andi Burns. And it definitely won’t be my last. Paige & Spencer’s story is awesome! Both Paige & Spencer were being forced by their families to fit into a box their family wanted them in. Luckily they both figure together that they need to follow their hearts.

This is going to be on the long side since it is the last of the series.

New to me author

The narration was good, I always love Savannah Peachwood

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I generally don't care for the party girls, which from the blurb is what Paige seemed to be, she is also a girly girl, focused on make-up and fashion. For one, I am not that person, so I struggle to relate that that type of character. I do understand that people who do make-up tutorials are very important and I am one who needs those things when I try to up on make-up, but I still struggle to relate to them on a personal level. While I understood Paige and I liked that she understood that Hockey came first for Spencer, she still was a bit selfish in some of her actions and she is someone I can't see myself being real friends with, mostly b/c I would be invisible to her.

Spencer, I liked that he was a bit shy, but I don't really have a lot of other thoughts on him.

I will say these two got together a lot faster than I expected. I thought they'd have a lot more classes and projects together before they started the official girlfriend boyfriend titles. I also expected more drama and party scenes from the set up Paige got in the blurb.

Over all an ok addition to the series. Not my top faves but not my least few faves either.

Anyone else want Jake and Trevor's story? Yeah, me too.

Time line: This happens the same time as book 9, which leads into . . .

Series continuity: Jonah/JD is captain in this book, no captain is mentioned in book 9. the alternate captain is . . . drum roll . . . Noah, yeah the one from book 9 who is new to the team and only has one year to play. Don't get me wrong, from Noah's book he most definitely deserves the position, BUT that fact is never mentioned in HIS OWN book, you'd think if he was alt cap that would be talked about in Noah's story. Lex and Derick (Zoe's brother) get a mention, as does a guy named Birdy, who I'm not sure who that nickname belongs to, it sounded like Zack at first but I'm not sure, if it is Zack then that is the second Guy with that nick name. There was a Jason in the first few books that had that nickname.

My other BIG issue is the reuse of names. YES, I know these are written by different authors, and YES I know that some names are common and you can have 5 Katies in one class, but unless it is used for a literary device or acknowledged that two people have the same name, it is wrong in this type of writing. For example: Book 8 and Book 10 both have a Sophie, who are most likely two different people. Books 8 and 9 each have a Derick, who are most definitely two different people. Books 8, 9, and 10, ALL have a Justin and all seem to be different. For a series like this or how romance series generally go, you never know what side character might eventually get their own story SO NAMES MATTER.

I really wonder how the process of this series came about. What writing prompts and notes were each author given? How much communication happened between authors?

As for the connection to the world of True North, the only books that felt like they belonged due to characters and references were Book 1, 5, and to a point 9. The main theme that seamed to carry through out the whole series was that of overbearing and controlling fathers (families). While most of the fathers of the sons and a few of the daughters were former NHL stars or hopefuls, even those that weren't still had control issues, like Paige's father. I'm not sure if that is what just happen to creatively come out of each of the author's or if that was part of a writing prompt but it would have been nice if some of the families where a bit more supportive of their kids. And those that didn't have overbearing parent's had ones that were apathetic like Lex's dad.

Oh and if I was a coach on that team, parents would NOT be allowed during practice. *Shakes head* I can't believe Spencer's father just showed up and started coaching Zack, that is wildly inappropriate.

OK, I think that is all I have on this whole series. On the whole enjoyable with some frustration thrown in. These can certainly be enjoyed as individual stories, since overall continuity was not the main focus of this series. I most likely would have enjoyed this series more had it been written by one author. However, I will probably revisit this series again or maybe just Books 1 and 5.
