Could swearing off men lead Chelsea to the perfect woman?

After being rejected one too many times, Chelsea makes a bold vow: No more men. Her friends doubt a boy-crazy party girl can handle not dating for a year, but that only makes Chelsea more determined.

Tara has made a vow, too. After growing up in foster care and suppressing herself to please others, she's going to live her truth. When she sees a beautiful woman, she'll make her attraction known.

Chelsea appreciates Tara's flirtatious compliments, not to mention her androgynous beauty. There's a loophole in Chelsea's vow, and it's more tempting every day....

Contains mature themes.

The narration is the highlight here

I dropped everything when I learned that the Legendary Angela Dawe and phenomenal Abby Craden had narrated an audiobook together, and put my other audiobook on pause as soon as it was released. I mean - what a coup to secure the both of them! But even the best narrators can only do so much with the material they are given and this one was rough.
It could be because the MCs were 22 and 26 - one so immature that it was painful. And then there were the 37 (guesstimate) references to "dick" in the first couple hours of the book, since the 22 year old was guy-crazy initially. If I never hear that word again it won't be too soon.
There are some good things in this story. The older MC, Tara, was brought up in the foster care system so she's got some attachment issues to work through. Her story is more fleshed out and she has a good, supportive network of friends. Chelsea is just a hot mess and while she has bright moments and grows throughout the story, she's mostly selfish and clueless. I don't know that I saw enough growth from her to buy into the story's conclusion.
In general, if not for the stellar narration from both Dawe and Craden I don't know that I would have finished listening. It could be an age thing. Perhaps people in their 20s might relate to this more? Not sure, but the story itself is not the draw here. There was actually an Angela Dawe moment during one of the love scenes that made me gulp and say, "Okay. This made the whole book worth listening to right here." And sadly, that's the best I can say about it.

The best gift in the world is life fully loved.

So loved this story. Chelsea has had a charmed life she took for granted. A straight woman trying to find the right man for her world. Tara has been in the foster care system since the age of six. Her lack of trust in humans is clear but she has a positive confidence that is just courageous. These two women should have nothing in common. Leave it to Kim Hartfield to weave one of the most delicious and encouraging stories. This is a story of growth, in oneself and in each other that is full of hot, sweet and just papable love from confused beginnings. The magnificent narration by Abby Craden and Angela Dawe make it something I will listen to often. Tara's voice is just a soulful gift to the ears. I can't even begin to describe the joy, fun and terrific connection the main characters share that strengthen and grows. This is a must listen on so many levels. Bravo

Narration dream come true

Honestly speaking not familiar with the author and purchase the audio because of Abby Craden and Angela Dawe. I must say I am grateful the story really was a good one and their narration of it was just a beyond extra bonus. Sometimes you are left wanting a little more when the stories are shorter, but the audio flow was good from the beginning to the end. The story had a little bit of everything and without spoiling things, I’m glad the author didn’t drag down mood with a detailed story of Tara’s youth. Just my two cents but anything Craden and Dawe are attached to is likely worth a listen.

Narration Heaven!

Put the two best narrators together on a les-fic and try to stop me from buying it! Not gonna happen. The performances, of course, were excellent, though not exactly what I expected.
The book was broken up by alternating chapters from each MCs first-person POV. Abby read the POV of Tara and Angela read the POV of Chelsea. But the dialogue between the two characters was always read by whoever was reading that chapter, so both narrators did the dialogue for both characters depending on the POV. (I hope that made sense)
It would have been fun if the dialogue of the character always stayed with that character’s narrator.
Regardless, the book, while short and superficial, was quite enjoyable. There was a lot that was glossed over and I felt like it had room to be deeper and allow for more background on the characters to help you connect more with them. Seemed like a missed opportunity. That being said, this is a great listen if your not in the mood to be dragged through an emotional roller coaster. It’s sweet and funny and the narration alone makes it well worth the buy.
Happy Listening!

Opposites attract sapphic romance…

This audiobook was narrated by Angela Dawe AND Abby Craden. That dream team got me in the door, but the story also stands extremely well on its own.
22-year old Chelsea is swearing off men for a year after a long line of hookups that lead nowhere. The flirtatious Tara soon catches her eye, but what starts out as a desire to experiment turns into a bit more than she expected. This is a sweet, steamy opposites attract romance.

Sweet Story

I have never read a Kim hart Hartfield book, but I’m glad I have discovered her books. What drew me to this book was the dynamic combination of Angela Dawe and Abby Craden as narrators. IMO you can never go wrong with these two. The story is about two opposites, Chelsea, a young party animal trying to find love, and Tara, a bit older, and who has had a very difficult life. At first Chelsea does seem immature and whiny, but the narration reflects the growth of both characters. It is a good listen.

Unexpected

Chelsea is done with men but she thought she was still straight. Tara catches her eye which sets off a chain of events. I love the way their relationship builds over time. I listened to the audio version and enjoyed it very much.

MC was annoying as heck..

I’ve read and listened to EVERY V&V and In V&V book …. This was the last one on my list… But this was the first time I couldn’t stand an MC.. Chelsea ruined this book for me. The saving grace was Terra and the narration.
