Takeover (Book 1 of the Take series): An enemies to lovers, single dad romance Kindle Edition
TARA
I was supposed to be in charge. That was always my intention. Until that slick corporate raider, Ethan Bradford, clicked his fancy pen and poof! Just like that, I was under him, instead of on top. Rich and powerful men–especially arrogant, handsome ones–are all the same. I know exactly how to handle him, but when my father pulls rank and orders me to play nice, my plans of putting him in his place vanish. I know his type. I’ve been around men like him my entire life, but one chance meeting with him and his son, makes me question everything I thought I knew.
ETHAN
When it comes to business, I always come out on top. Not even being a single dad can slow me down. I never let a good investment get away, and that includes Taylor Toys. After all, business is business, right? How was I supposed to know a friendly meeting would set me on fire? Tara Taylor is a spoiled princess, used to getting everything she wants. Sure, her good looks and smart mouth turn me on like nothing else. Despite her hostile stares, she triggered feelings I thought were long dead. She dares to judge me while she stands there in her designer shoes, looking more beautiful than any marketing exec I’ve ever met. Instead of being grateful that I saved her family’s legacy, she blames me for their failure. What was meant to be a formality turns into a game of wills. I never lose. Except this time, I find myself wanting her more than I want to win. I find myself wanting her to take over.

I loved this book from the beginning to the end.
This was such a beautiful reading experience, it has been a while since I’ve read a book that gave me all the feels.
This book is one of those books, which you want to read of forever and never reaching the end. It is so good, with great writing and amazing characters. The plot is well defined, the action is not rushed, and you have the time to enjoy, and later fall in love with the characters. And of course, to root for them and their happiness.
This is one of those books that remind me why I fell in love with romantics novel, and why I love so much those happily ever afters. This book is the perfect recipe for a great and successful book. It’s pure bliss, sunshine, happiness and love, with a touch (the perfect amount) of angst, all wrapped in perfect writing and great, lovable and relatable characters.
My girl Tara is everything. She is one of the best written characters that I’ve stumbled upon, and I love her so much. She is beautiful, charismatic, intelligent and hard-working. Strong, sassy, beautiful and smart, she knows her worth and is not afraid to speak her mind. She is fierce and loyal, determinant and dedicated to her job. I loved her so much, she has such a beautiful and vibrant personality, it is almost impossible not to love her.
I loved the scenes with her and her family, there were so beautiful and so well written that I really felt like a part of that family. And those scene with her and little Vincent swooned my heart completely.
Ethan is the change Tara didn’t wanted in her life, but ended being the best thing that ever happened to her.
He is smart and handsome, and he knows it, with a body that could make the Greek Gods jealous, is easy-going, charismatic and has a smile that makes every girl and woman week in their knees. But also, he is hard-working, smart and super dedicated to his job and his son. He is one of the best in his field, and is very cocky about it.
I loved the way his character was build, I fell in love with him instantly. No matter how hard I tried at first, I couldn't find something to hate about him.
He is the best father for little Vincent, his four year old son, always there for his boy. He always prioritize his sons needs, showering him in love and affection. He is doing his best as a single father, rising a little boy while being the CEO of one of the best companies in the world.
Where do I find myself a men like this?
The scenes with Tara, Ethan and Vincent were everything, I swear that I had hearts in my eyes everytime I read a scene with them. They make such a beautiful family.
The attraction and chemistry between Tara and Ethan was undeniable, and their story so well written. It wasn't one of those instant love story, their story was a steady one, filled with back and forth steps. Their constant banter gave me so many laughs, and their passion was so hot.
They are both driven and hard working, and I found it amusing how they tried, and later failed, to keep their distance, even though the attraction and connection between them it was undeniable. They gravitated towards each other, always looking for the other or seeking the presence of each other.
If you want a book that is gonna give you all the feels, and turn all your insides intro mush, that this book is definitely the one for you!
The ending was the perfect one for this couple, it was everything I had hoped for them, and I know for sure that the readers are also gonna fall in love with it. If you are a fan of happy endings, romance and characters that would raise all of your expectations when it comes to love in real life, this is the perfect book.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2025I really enjoyed this book! I like how Evelyn writes and at this point I’m convinced I know every detail of her life LOL. I love how she often puts a woman who just can’t let the male protagonist go! Lindsay was actually ridiculous, but overall it was a great read. I also would never date a man with a child, but Ethan and Vincent were adorable. So happy for Tara, even if she’s a fictional character 😉.
Also, I read “Friendzoned” before reading this book, and it took me so long to realize it was the same Tara and Vickie, which made me even happier once I realize how Tara’s story ended. Five stars!!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025Evelyn knows how to capture you from the beginning of the book. I am really enjoying her catalog. This was a great way to start the series , Honey the drama with that ex wife would’ve had me whooping her tail . Great read off to book two
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2023At first, I REALLY did not like this book. Tara was so immature and seemed so undisciplined that I could not comprehend her being a well educated, twenty eight year old human being. It was literally peeving me. Like, I understand why she was upset but the understanding only went so far - especially when you think about it logically. However, her growth and development was nice to see.
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it as to why I am giving this book three stars and honestly it just seemed like something I would read at thirteen years old and gush over.
Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy how it showed the dynamics of being a step parent and all that it comes with but I also felt like some of the scenes weren’t realistic - especially being a product of a blended family household. Of course, I’m also not filthy rich (yet) so maybe I’m wrong.
But then there was the dialogue and behavior being too young for adults. I feel like if we touched more on adulthood and societal issues I would have related more to it. I also wonder how hard it must’ve been for the father to lose such a thing he’s worked his entire life for. The anxiety and fear Tara feels at having to let go of her father’s legacy as well a dream she’s been moulded into her entire life.
I guess all in all I couldn’t connect with the story but the smut was great!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2021Ok, first of all, just as I expected, this book was ridiculously long for no absolute reason. Tara, although super well educated was such a brat in the beginning. But, in all fairness, Ethan brought it out of her. Ethan was soo unpleasant to read about. In the beginning, he was sooo arrogant, condescending, chauvinist, entitled, and overall a dick. For a black woman, I don't understand how Tara allowed him to speak to her the way he did. Some of the stuff Ethan said to her or did to her I wouldn’t have NEVER allowed. When Ethan was in her apartment, refusing to leave, and answered her door and started harassing her date oh, I was livid... It had my blood boiling. Eventually the duo did fall in love, but it came out of nowhere. Yes, they where sleeping together, spending time together, but their declaration of love for one another seem to come out of nowhere. The author did not take us on a journey to when they realized they loved each other. But all that said, Ethan did change. I guess love does that to you. I did enjoy the way he was with Tara towards the end, after they declared their love for one another. The way Ethan loved her was pretty cute.
Not gonna lie that fight scene between the two was super well written. This book was made by "US", but I don't think it was for "US". Although the story wasn't bad, I don't think I cared for the author's style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Progress indeed.
Thank you for making the female lead, Tara, not only a strong, independent, educated multi faceted woman, but also a woman of colour, quality and equality, respected and desirable and not a stereotypical caricature!

This book had me in giggles from start to finish. Tara was a strong female character, she’s extremely confident, selfless and comes with a lot of sass!
