Publisher's summary

From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry comes a single dad, second chance rock star romance

From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note’s infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band’s chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it’s to her pulse.

Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops.

When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she’s paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn’t able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future.

If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains.

Great Chemistry

I love this Hush Notes series and book 2 in the series was wonderful.

We got to meet Quinn in book one and I didn’t really like her character in that book, so I didn’t know what to expect from her in this one. There was a good bit of angst during this book for Quinn. She left for college nine years ago and never looked back, but now she is returning for her grandmother’s funeral. We learn a lot about Quinn in this book. We find out what caused the rift between her and her family and that also explains what happened between her and Graham nine years ago.

Quinn and Graham have a lot of issues between that need facing, so will they work through things to find their 2nd chance? Quinn’s family now is her band members, so Graham is going to need to learn how to handle that. They have been there for her when her real family and Graham were not. Quinn and Graham have that undeniable chemistry that you can feel coming off the pages. Graham was a wonderful person and single dad, so he was careful to keep his son from getting attached, because he knew Quinn would leave. He didn’t want Colin, his son, to get his heart broke like his was nine years ago.

Nan was the only person who truly believed in Quinn, stood by her, but now she’s gone. After the service, Quinn and her family have to face cleaning out Nan’s house and that is where Quinn truly finds herself again. In the love notes that were written by her grandfather to her grandmother. I so loved this book. Quinn redeemed herself to me and her and Graham were lucky to have each other and their second chance at happiness.

Second chance, small town, single dad, rockstar heroine!

Rifts and Refrains is part of the Hush Note standalone series, there are 3 books in the series written by different authors following the band Hush Note. I am obsessed with Devney Perry and have been reading all of her books lately so I had to jump right into hers!

Quinn is the female, Grammy-award winning drummer of the band Hush Note. She left home when she was 18 and hasn’t looked back, or been back since. The story starts off with her receiving news that her beloved grandmother, the only person she continued to stay in touch with, has passed away. She leaves the band and heads back to small town Montana for the funeral and comes face-to-face with her ex-boyfriend, Graham, at the airport. Graham and Quinn have so much history: they were high school sweethearts, they lived next door to one another growing up, he has always been her brother’s best friend, and 9 years ago when Quinn left town she left Graham behind too.

Graham is now a single dad to his 7-year-old son Colin and runs a home construction company with Quinn’s brother. While realizing she has so much to learn about Graham again, Quinn also has to make amends with her family. She hasn’t spoken to her father in the 9 years since she left home, she always felt like her pastor father was embarrassed of the choices she made in life (showing off skin with her clothes, being a drummer in a rock band), her sister is still upset with her leaving and never looking back, and she just met her nieces and nephews for the first time. One of her Gran’s last wishes was for Quinn and Graham to play together at her funeral, so the exes start spending time together and realize not all of their feelings were left in the past…

I loved this second chance romance, so much longing! All of the history between Quinn and Graham made it so good and angsty. I loved seeing Quinn connect and bond with Graham’s son, Colin. He is a fan of Quinn and her band and even plays the drums too, I loved seeing her practice and teach him. This is the type of music/rockstar romance I enjoy, not the flashy concerts and tour life, but seeing a character with musical talent/abilities living their life and enjoying their craft.

Quinn won me over!

"He was the towering oak tree, planted firmly in the earth. I was the bird, flying in the sky above, and the wind had carried me too far to turn back now."

I wasn’t so sure I’d like Quinn, the drummer of Hush Note. In Lies & Lullabies, she was a little ….shall we say, Prickly? But in the end, I really loved the female rocker.

After 9 years away, Quinn had to go back to her small town in Montana to say goodbye to the person she loved most, her Nan. When she left town, she not only left her judgmental family behind, she left the love of her life. Graham never fell out of love with Quinn, despite having a child with another woman. Now the father of a 7-year-old, Graham has a lot more at stake. Can the small-town single dad really be with a rock star?

Likes:

•Quinn quickly made me get over my dislike, and I loved her.
•Lots of deep family connections to be mended.
•Colon, Graham’s son, stole the show.
•The chemistry and connection were there from the start.

Dislikes:

•I had none.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell were wonderful in their roles and they brought the book to life. I definitely recommend listening to this one.

Rifts and Refrains

Devney Perry really knows how to tell a story! I envy Quinn and Graham’s love! Their childhood friendship evolved into an unshakable relationship with a solid foundation! To say that Quinn is resilient is an understatement, especially with the impoliteness and spiteful behavior of her family! I didn’t like how they felt the need to punish her with alienation for choosing to pursue her dreams! Graham provided the emotional encouragement and genuine acceptance needed to triumph over the obstacles in their path! He was angry initially but compassionate, encouraging and warm-hearted which facilitated the mending of their discordances! Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden are phenomenal narrators! Their performances breathed life into the story and made me feel all the angst, incivility, virtue, and affection in Quinn and Graham’s love story! I loved it and hope that the mending of their rifts help them to refrain from future foolishness❣️😍🥰🤩😍🥰

Loved

Quinn is so not what I expected! I loved her!! Walking away from her family and Graham was the hardest thing she has done but when Nan dies and she returns home, she is reminded just how much that decision cost her. Neither Graham or Quinn have ever moved on from each other and their attraction is undeniable. Nan’s death brought so much perspective to Quinn and what she walked away from. Even from the grave, Nan not only brought Quinn home but showed her how to heal! I can not wait for Nixon’s story!

One of my favorite rock star romances

It’s so awesome to have a female lead character that is as badass as Quinn and this story was just beautiful. The audio…it’s Maxine and Joe. I think that is all I need to say about that. ❤️
